Located on the show floor, Green LIVE is a free educational area open to all attendees that focuses on promoting proper tree selection, planting, care and maintenance strategies and services. Produced by Landscape Ontario Growers Group in partnership with the International Society of Arborists Ontario (ISAO), it will feature information sessions and demonstrations from leading industry experts. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this important product category and what industry professionals can offer consumers when contracting for landscape services.

All sessions are eligible for ISA Ontario Pre-approved CEUs.

Stage Hosted by: Charlie Dobbin, B.S.c.(Agr), CLD
Charlie is a well-known horticulturist and landscape designer with professional gardening experience world-wide. She is owner of a horticultural consulting company, and hosts the Garden Show on AM740 every Saturday! She also teaches horticulture at Humber College and Durham College, and fits in garden consultations whenever she can. She has diverse industry experience including: 18 years in retail Garden Centres, co-hosted the HGTV-show ‘One Garden Two Looks’, was the Horticultural Director for Canada Blooms for 12 years, and plenty of judging for Communities in Bloom Ontario.

    Urban Soils: Naturally Unnatural
    Taking a closer look at the physical, chemical and biological properties of urban soils can help identify their shortcomings. The first step in planning short and long term strategies to sustain woody plants in the urban environment is to know the limitations of these soils.

    Soil Matters: BMPs for prepping large sites for tree planting
    Information from research trials conducted throughout Ontario and Alberta by Vineland Research and Innovation Centre will be presented. Key considerations for soil restoration to improve tree survival and growth in challenging urban environments will be discussed.

  • Thursday PM: How to Care for Established Trees in the Urban Forest
    1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
    If you want trees to thrive in an urban environment, you need to provide them with some level of care and protection. Tree needs will be discussed – pruning, soil amendments, insect and disease management and protection from humans – and recommendations will be made to help prolong the life of trees within the urban forest.
